Ever since James was young, he was obsessed with spy movies. Acting like the Bond version of himself, he would spend his days running around defeating imaginary bad-guys and investigating their hideouts throughout the suburbs of the Eastern United States. Reading and playing copious amounts of video games let him experience many worlds, but the call to adventure that this young man experienced truly manifested when he received his first spyglass as a Christmas gift from his parents. It was pirate-secret-agent from then on out.
He noticed the incredible bodily feats of the agents, and in high school he was inspired to pursue martial arts classes, and he ran varsity on the track team. He had a close-knit group of friends, and while he was fairly well-known and liked, the only leading he did was by example. Towards the end of his high school career, he found himself taking an introductory programming class. James showed much affinity for it by winning the School’s Programmer of the Year award as a senior, which decided his path in college.
During the blissful and stressful years of college, he developed a love for coffee, an unhealthy sweet-tooth, and a hobby of collecting vinyls. Never would he work, nor to this day does he work, without listening to music. College is also where he met his wife, Sara, attending an outdoor exploration club.
James now works in a small web development team, debugging, and Sara works as a biology researcher to support their growing family, including their daughter, Emily, and their dog, Shilo.
He never lost his first spyglass, and he now stargazes and city-watches as a hobby. His daughter means the world to him, and he hopes he can show her martial arts one day, even if he’s getting rusty.
Behind the Scenes
For this one, I simply found PNG’s with transparent backgrounds, and pasted and cropped them into an office space using Photoshop. The inspiration for the character and his backstory came from several of my friends, family, and my own experiences.
